Birds of prey near the Morava River

Public bird walk to Devínske jazero area, a regularly flooded site near the Morava River. The exact route will be therefore adapted to the actual water level. Walk will be focused on birds of prey (White-tailed Eagle, Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Northern Goshawk, Kestrel, Hen Harrier, Peregrine Falcon, Imperial Eagle), waterbird (ducks, herons) and birds of floodplain forest (woodpeckers, song birds).

Transport: together by train, possible to use your own car or a bicycle

Meeting place and time: the entrance hall of Bratislava main train station (Hlavná stanica), 8:00.

Departure from Bratislava at 8:16, possibility to entrain also at station Lamač at 8:24 or Devínska Nová Ves 8:31, we will get of in Devínske jazero at 8:35. Participants buy their tickets individually.

Return by train at 1:22 pm  from Devínske jazero. Arrival of the train to Bratislava main train station at 1:42 pm. It is possible to walk from Devínske jazero to Devínska Nová Ves (ca 5 km).

Participants interested in coming by own car can park at the “U starého bicykla” buffet, where we meet at 8:50. In case you´re coming with small children or less mobile participants, you can park also next to the military object at railway ramps. We will be there around 9:45. You will find a map here.

Trip length: 5 hours

Route and terrain: easy, terrain is plain, walk will be approx. 8 – 11 km long; good field shoes recommended due to the possibility of mud on the pathway

Participant fee optional. We provide binoculars, identification guide for determining birds and a spotting scope to the participants.
