bicycle birdwatching trip C1

Our first bicycle trip in the year will lead us to the southern outskirts of Bratislava. Our target area will be the River Danube and the Hrušovská zdrž water reservoir near Čunovo. The end of March is the time when we await the return of Barn Swallows. According to our experience the mentioned water bodies are great places to spot the first arriving birds in Slovakia. We will have an opportunity to observe ducks, grebes, herons and we hope that the first Barn Swallows will appear too. First 10 – 15 km we will just pedal to approach our target area. On the last 5 km of the first half of our trip we will have several stops to check the water surface and we will try to find Swallows and other interesting birds. Return journey will lead, with little exception, on the same path. Stops will be made according to birds occurrence and stamina of the group.
